  3. Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort Sold

Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort in Calabash, N.C. has been sold to Atlantic Golf Acquisitions NC, LLC. Longtime Myrtle Beach golf operator Chip Smith joined with partners Andy Apple and Steve Harnish to complete the purchase for $2.8 million dollars. Smith and his partners also own Atlantic Golf Management, which has been operating Whispering Pines Golf Club profitably for the city of Myrtle Beach since November of 2014.

Included in the sale is a 27-hole Willard Byrd designed course that opened the first 18 holes in 1992 and added the third nine in 1998. Also included with the purchase is a clubhouse, resort check-in building that is being converted into a bar and grill, and a condo rental business that will allow stay-and-play golf packages.

Smith has been involved in the Myrtle Beach golf business since the early 1990’s and specializes in golf management and marketing. Apple is a longtime Myrtle Beach area golf course superintendent and he will oversee the course conditions and agronomy. Harnish owns multiple McDonald’s franchises and will help with the food and beverage operations. The three should blend together for a very powerful golf course operation.

Smith believes that there is a very strong market in the Myrtle Beach area for medium to low-end priced golf courses and fewer high-end ones. They look forward to welcoming locals, local groups, membership play and golf packages.

Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort will remain a member of East Coast Golf Management, which is a marketing cooperative in the Myrtle Beach area.

Smith also may have his eyes on future golf ventures if the time and place are right. The goal is to grow slowly and steadily.

Our best wishes to Atlantic Golf Management and Brunswick Plantation for a very bright and successful future.
