  3. The Future of Golf in Myrtle Beach: Tomorrows Legends Battle for Glory in Palmetto High School Classic

For centuries the game of golf has instilled perseverance and integrity in countless generations of players. In Myrtle Beach that tradition remains alive today. Every day the future of golf is being decided on fairways and in sand traps in Myrtle Beach, as the legends of tomorrow hone their craft.

Nowhere is this bright and shimmering future more evident than the recent Palmetto High School Classic.

This past weekend, twenty-nine high school teams from six states competed in the 54-hole college style event, held at True Blue Golf Plantation and Caledonia Golf and Fish Club.

Jaden Cantafio of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California shot a (-5) to lead Mater Dei to victory in the Classic. Woodruff High School won the First Flight championship, besting Arapahoe by seven shots. Woodruff’s Daniel Brasington won medalist honors, shooting a 70 at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.

Bart Romano, True Blue Head Golf Professional, said this tournament showcases some of the top junior golfers in the world.

“That these kids are being exposed to great golf, and great golf courses in the Grand Strand is great for everybody,” said Ramano.

As for the future of Junior Golf in Horry County, Romano watches with glee as the sport continues to expand in the golf capital the world.

“It’s been a huge boom especially in the last 18 years, and it’s only getting bigger,” said Romano.

It has been said many times that Myrtle Beach is the Golf Capital of the World. It’s true; Myrtle Beach has over 100 of the most beautiful and challenging golf courses in the world. It’s also true that the beautiful weather and vibrant golf community makes Myrtle Beach a haven for golfers the world over. But perhaps Myrtle Beach’s greatest claim to the title of Golf Capital of the World stems from its commitment to the next generation of golfers.
