While visiting the Grand Strand on your next golf trip I recommend that you stop by Lori’s Golf Shoppe in Calabash, N.C. Lori’s is owned and operated by Lori DeSimone and she also serves as the Director of Golf Instruction. At Lori’s you will find a one of a kind golf store that has an unbelievable selection of golf merchandise that you might not be able to find in other retail stores.
Lori was born in Agawam, Ma. and she began her career in junior golf in Western Mass. She competed as the number one player on the Boston College Ladies Golf Team and finished her collegiate career in the top 10 of the East Coast Athletic Conference while also graduating with academic honors.
Lori moved to Myrtle Beach in 1997 and continued her career as a top ranked amateur in the Carolinas. During the time Lori worked at Arcadian Shore Golf Club and in 1999, Lori relinquished her amateur status to compete on the Futures Golf Tour. At the same time she began her professional teaching career at the Resort Golf Academy. While at the Resort Golf Academy, Lori was instrumental in developing and coordinating Ladies Instructional programs.
Lori met her husband Jeff while she was working at Arcadian Shores. She says that her favorite thing about living at the beach is the number of courses to choose from and the ocean.
Other favorites of Lori’s are Tobacco Road for its pure beauty and challenge. It is not surprising that Lori lists the Boston Red Sox as her favorite sports team. Golf is of course her favorite pastime but she also enjoys walking on the beach, kick boxing and Muay Thai. Ruth’s Chris is her favorite restaurant.
Lori’s Golf Shoppe has grown from 500 square feet to 5000 square feet in 10 years and 80% of its sales are via the internet and she obviously ships internationally. Lori’s also has a second location in Pinehurst, N.C. which plays host to both the men’s and women’s U.S. Opens this coming summer.
Lori would love to include more travel trips for the store as well as improve the Golf academy with swing analysis thru videos.
Lori is a great promoter of the game of golf for this area and she has great interest not in only growing the game for women but also juniors. The game of golf desperately needs more individuals like Lori if we are going to see this game flourish.
