The new year is here, and the time is right for an unforgettable Myrtle Beach golf getaway. With over 100 word-renowned golf courses, each engineered by the most respected names in golf and tailored towards every playing level, it may be difficult to decide where you and your friends want to play first. Not to worry, the Myrtle Beach Golf Authority is here to make your decision a little easier with in-depth looks at a few of Myrtle Beach’s premier courses.
This week we will be looking at the legendary Beachwood Golf Club.
Nestled in the heart of North Myrtle Beach, Beachwood Golf Club has earned the reputation of being the “the Most Player Friendly Golf Course in Myrtle Beach”. For over 50 years, this par-72 showpiece has offered countless generations of players one of the most challenging and enjoyable golf experiences on the Grand Strand. Situated in walking to the beach and to many of North Myrtle Beach’s most popular accommodations, Beachwood Golf Club is a favorite among visitors and locals alike.
Designed by Gene Hamm in 1968, Beachwood Golf Club perfectly captures the natural beauty of South Carolina with expansive stretches towering Carolina Pines, shimmering lakes, and gorgeous wildflowers. The course’ wide, generous fairways, immaculately manicured greens putting greens, and immense practice facilities make it an ideal choice for beginners looking to sharpen their skills and deepen their love for the game.
However, don’t let the serene locale and friendly staff fool you. Beachwood Golf club offers plenty of exciting challenges to keep golfers on their toes. From the Championship Tees, the course ranges an impressive 6,844 yards in length. Water is abundant on the course but it typically comes into play only on the most arrant of shots.
The first few holes are fairly straightforward, but progressively intensify as you go. Hole number 5, is a challenging par-4 hole with water protecting the green, forcing a left to right shot into the center of the green. But be careful, a wayward shot to the left quickly finds trees that protect that side of the green.
With its pristine natural beauty and player-friendly atmosphere, Beachwood Golf Club is a favorite setting for many golf tournaments, including the Carolinas Open and the Carolinas PGA Seniors Championship. Most recently, Beachwood Golf Club hosted the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Golf Tournament.
No matter what you're looking for out of your Myrtle Beach golf experience, Beachwood Golf Club has something to make every member of your golf group happy. Whether you’re a professional getting in a little practice before your next tournament or you’re a beginner looking to take up golf as a new hobby, a day at Beachwood Golf will leave you smiling.
