  3. Myrtle Beach Course Spotlight: Tidewater Golf Club

The snows of winter have receded. Flowers bloom, backyard grills roar to life, and golfers eagerly plan their first round of the summer season.  With over 100 golf courses engineered by top designers and geared to every playing level, Myrtle Beach is the place every golfer wants to be when the weather turns warm. With so many golf courses it might be difficult to decide just where you and your friends might want to play first.  Never fear, the Myrtle Beach Golf Authority is here to make your decision a little easier with in-depth looks at a few of Myrtle Beach’s premier courses.

This week we will be taking an in-depth look at Tidewater Golf Club.  Situated peacefully between Cherry Grove and the Intracoastal Waterway, Tidewater Golf Club features the perfect combination of challenging the play and natural beauty. With a course rating of 74.8 and slope rating of 144, this par 72 sleeping giant is guaranteed to challenge any golfer and deliver an incredible day hitting the links.

Designed by architect Ken Tomlinson in 1990, Tidewater Golf Club seamlessly conforms to the landscape to create a course that is as breathtakingly beautiful as it is enjoyably challenging. Inspired by such legendary venues as Merion and Pine Valley, Tomlinson refused to incorporate artificial elements into his design for Tidewater. The resulting design blends exquisitely with the natural beauty of the Pee Dee. A magnificent saltwater marsh and ocean inlet adjoin the course on the east while the Intracoastal Waterway flanks several holes on the north and west. Thick stands of hardwoods add to the natural diversity of the course, evoking memories of New England’s finest clubs.

Tidewater wears its reputation like a badge of honor. Throughout its illustrious career, it has been recognized with countless awards, including being named one of “America’s Top 100 Greatest Public Courses” by Golf Digest and the only course ever to be named Best New Course by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. In fact, Tidewater Golf Club is the most awarded golf course in South Carolina.

If you’re new to the game or are just interested in honing your skills, check out Tidewater’s illustrious Golf Academy. Sign up for private instruction or join a pro on the course for a special ‘playing lesson’ where you’ll learn about club selection, course management, and shot selection. After almost a year away Tidewater is excited to welcome back its premier Director of Instruction, Hugh Royer III. Royer is one of the most highly regarded instructors in the Grand Strand and his experience as a former PGA Tour player and top amateur/college golfer gives him the ability to relate to golfers of all skill levels.

No matter what your skill level is, Tidewater is guaranteed to provide an amazing round of golf that you will not want to miss.

Keep Calm and Golf on Carolina!
