  3. Meet PGA Life Member Jim Campbell

Myrtle Beach is known as the "Seaside Golf Capital of the World” and with that distinction it attracts golfers from around the globe and also a wide variety of golf professionals that have made Myrtle Beach their home.  Jim Campbell is one of those professionals and the Myrtle Beach golf community is fortunate to have him.

Jim is originally from Charlotte, N.C. and he has been on the Myrtle Beach golf scene since 1967.  He has been married to his wife Barbara for 47 years and they have one daughter, Robin and one son, Chris.  He also has 5 grandchildren.

Jim has seen all of the growth of the Myrtle Beach golf industry and has enjoyed many positions at various golf courses along the Grand Strand.  Jim earned his PGA membership in 1976 and today is a Life Member.  He was the Director of Golf at Ocean Isle Beach Golf Club and The Pearl Golf Links in Sunset Beach, N.C.  He also taught at the Gator Hole Golf School.  For the past 12 years Jim has been teaching at Beachwood Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach where he specializes in teaching senior players, club fitting and playing lessons.  In 1994 Jim was named the Teacher of the Year for the Myrtle Beach area.

Jim is named for his father Jim Campbell who had his PGA Tour card from 1959 to 1964. His father was the professional at Hobbs Country Club in Hobbs, N.M.  It was really fun for me to visit with Jim as we had much in common and knew many of the same people in the golf business in the West Texas area where I am from.  His father won the West Texas PGA Championship and many other tournaments in that area.  His father also called PGA legend Jimmy Demaret a close friend.

Some of the noted golfers that Jim has worked with include PGA Tour winners Randy Glover, Leonard Thompson, Dick Lotz and LPGA player, Kathy Johnson.  He also assisted National Club Professional champions Bobby Galloway and Roger Watson, South Carolina Open champion, Terry Florence and North Carolina Open Champions, Randy Fuqua and Dirk Mass.  Of course these are just a few of the countless golfers Jim as helped with their golf games over the years.

Jim says that when he has time he enjoys fishing and church activities at Todays Harvest Church in North Myrtle Beach.  His favorite golf course in the area is the Love Course at Barefoot Golf Resort in North Myrtle Beach.  We also were in agreement on our favorite restaurant which is Benny Rappa’s in North Myrtle Beach.

It was such a pleasure for me to visit with this fine gentleman.  He is the consummate golf professional and exemplifies what the PGA of America stands for.  If you need a little help with your golf game or just want to meet an extraordinary gentleman you should stop by Beachwood Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach.  You will certainly be glad you did.
